| Plustech, a Finnish subsidiary of John Deere, has developed this ominous-looking harvesting contraption with an equally ominous name: the Walking Forest Machine. The Machine stalks its way through the woodlands harvesting trees, all the while adjusting its speed, height and gait based on the terrain it encounters.
Moving on six articulated legs, the harvester advances forward and backward, sideways and diagonally. It can also turn in place and step over obstacles. Depending on the irregularity of the terrain, the operator can adjust both the ground clearance of the machine and heigh of each step.
